On a warm Saturday afternoon, most teenagers in the neighborhood were gearing up for the big end-of-year pool party. Music echoed from backyards, and the scent of barbecue drifted through the air.

Enclosed was a $10,000 check — and a small silver locket with a photo of Mrs. Henderson and her late husband.

Lily was stunned.
